Lets gather up a ministry of women who praise, thank and plead with God through prayer on a daily basis.
Have you ever met someone who was the definition of a ‘prayer warrior’? I know someone who prays with everything they have, in every circumstance, and it is quite simply, inspirational. So much of me longs to be like this person, however I am not putting this discipline into practice enough. I decided to make this my mission of lent…to explore, learn and practice prayer daily. I’m not going to lie to you, it’s not going well. When I think about why, I realise that the excuse of ‘life is just so busy at the moment’, is a basic cover up for ‘I’m too lazy and need to prioritise better’.
So I became super thankful when our church decided to start a series on prayer, I really felt as though God was saying ‘you’re not coming to me, so I’m going to bring it to you.’ One of the weeks, I sat with the kids in Sunday Club and listened to two people talk about their prayer lives. I do not remember learning any of the practical aspects of prayer in Sunday School, but then again, I may not have been listening too well. The 3 questions that we asked our team where;
When and where do you pray?
How do you hear God?
How often do you pray/do you want to pray?
So in a simply short blog post, I wanted to give you these three questions as something to ponder. Maybe you are a ‘prayer warrior’ or maybe you only ever pray when you need something; but take this opportunity now to ask yourself about your prayer life and ask God how he wants you to grow. Our prayer lives are TOO important to be ignored!!
Let’s gather up a ministry of women who praise, thank and plead with God through prayer on a daily basis.
I’ll leave you with an extract from Timothy Keller’s book on ‘Prayer’, highlighting the necessity to pray,
“Imagine you were diagnosed with such a lethal condition that the doctor told you that you would die within hours unless you took a particular medicine – a pill every night before going to sleep. Imagine that you were told that you could never miss it or you would die. Would you forget? Would you not get around to it some nights? No – it would be so crucial that you wouldn’t forget, you would never miss. Well, if we don’t pray to God, we’re not going to make it [through all the difficult times]. We have to pray, we can’t just let it slip our minds.”
