Bible Reading Plan

Updated: Jun 6, 2018

Rachel shares her daily bible reading plan and encourages us all to get excited about the word.

I would love to share with you all a bible reading plan which has really enhanced my daily readings and increased my knowledge of the Word. This structure was introduced to me a couple of summers ago, and has massively blessed me.

I, and from the sounds of it many others, have struggled over the years to remain disciplined to lifting my bible daily and getting stuck into the word. Especially with no set plan, it can be daunting to look at all 66 books and know where to start. There has been plenty of times in the past I would find myself at a Christian event and realise that I hadn’t lifted my bible in ages. It wasn’t until my first year of uni that something changed and I specifically set time out of my day to spend time in the word. Pretty quickly it became a part of my day that I craved, and my days felt incomplete without having spent time in the Word.

I can not recommend enough persevering in the word, jump into it, wrestle with it, spend time in it. Get to know our Heavenly Father, investigate the person of Christ, understand who He is, what He did, how we can become more like Him.

Something that really shook me was how few books of the bible young evangelical Christians had read, even those in leadership positions. In society today we are bombarded with so much information, we fill our minds full of ‘stuff’ and yet people often complain that they “feel disconnected from God”, they aren’t hearing from Him. Yet when our minds are filled with so many transient earthly things, it is no wonder that we find ourselves so disconnected. It is so important that we spend time daily in prayer and in the Word, aligning our hearts with our Father's.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3v2

This plan has led me to read many more books of the bible, and having a structure is so helpful for daily discipline.

As you can see from the plan the 66 books are split up into subsections and each day of the week takes a subsection.

An example of how I use it - take Monday for example, I will write in a separate notebook the day and date and where I’m starting (from Matthew 1) and then jot down any notes, thoughts, verses. Generally there is no set amount, some days you may find yourself reading multiple chapters or maybe only a few verses, it often depends on the book and time restraints. I love this sort of structure, sometimes some verses require a lot more reflection and because there isn’t a set amount you have to get through that day, it allows you to spend more time on them. I end my reading by jotting down where I finish so I can pick up where I left off the next week.

I hope this babble of mine makes sense and I pray this will be beneficial to even one of you, most importantly, may I just encourage you to be excited about the Word of God, what a privilege it is to have such an incredible book that we can read and come into fellowship with Christ through.

Let us be a generation of women who take the Word of God seriously, who let it impact our lives and strive to be true to it. How our minds and lives would change if we truly allowed the word of God to shape us.
